Profile PictureJeff Schabel

My name is Jeff Schabel and I have been working in the custom and retail meat business for over 35 years. I have lived in Northwest Montana, close to Glacier National Park for close to 40 years. I am married, with 3 daughters, and 6 grandkids. I started my meat cutter career by working for a Custom Meat Cutter. Here is where I learned how to properly slaughter cattle and hogs. We would travel to the nearby farms and ranches and slaughter their livestock on their farm and then take the carcass back to our meat cutting facility to be cut up and wrapped. We made sausage, cured and smoked hams, and bacon, besides the basic cutting and wrapping of the rancher's livestock. After nearly 3 years of custom cutting, I started working for the world’s largest retail grocery chain. Today, I have recently retired from a northwest Grocery chain, with stores in Montana, Idaho, and Washington. There was a 10 years period when I was away from meat cutting. I started my own whole-grain snack food business. Just so you know I am very health conscious. I believe good health is a must, especially today with all the poor nutritional foods which are available. My snack food business, unfortunately, did not work out and I ended up in California working on one of the nation's largest cut flower nurseries. Something else you probably should know about me, I love dirt!!! I love to garden. My yard, garden, and greenhouse are my real loves….right after my wife and kids. I have published 4 books: “How to Cook a Perfect Prime Rib Roast” In this book, I have outlined in detail how to select, prepare and cook a Prime Rib Roast perfect every time, guaranteed “Retired Butcher reveals secrets to saving money on Beef, Chicken, Pork, and Seafood” In this revealing book, I share with the reader how to save 50% or more on beef, chicken, seafood, and pork. Over the 35 years of working in supermarket meat departments, I used these techniques over and over again to save thousands of dollars. “Beyond Glacier National Park” This is a travel guide for all the fun and exciting things to do outside of Glacier National Park. This is a great travel guide if you ever plan on visiting Glacier National Park and want to explore the towns and communities outside of the park. “51 questions you have always wanted to ask you butcher, but were afraid to ask” Here I answer all the questions you might have about the confusing words used on labels and packaging today.
